If you have been around for awhile, you will know that we try to take you on a journey every month with each experience and teach you how to transform it. I bet you would have never thought of making something as ridiculously simple as an ice cream sundae into a more immersive experience. We went there! Why? Because the more we incorporate mindfulness and presence in our lives, the easier it gets and the more it transforms your life for the better.
First you need to decide what flavor and type of ice cream you want to make. In our boxes this month we sent our subscribers recipes for no churn ice cream, because let's face it, not too many people own an ice cream maker. And yes I did say you are making ice cream! This experience is not about running to Walmart, it's about first trying something new, and second it's so easy! If you don't own an ice cream maker, just search for no churn ice cream recipes.
Now, I'm hoping the shock of making your own ice cream has worn off. What flavors first come to mind? We want to get high quality delicious ingredients because we have toppings as well to think about. Think about taking a trip to the local farmer's market or a specialty market near you. Pay attention as you are looking around to colors, textures, and what flavors you are drawn to. Pick some unique items to experiment with new flavor combinations.
The next thing we want to think about to make this a mindful experience is the presentation. Yep I know. When you want to eat ice cream you go and grab the nearest cereal bowl and pile it in. Let's take a step back. Do you have beautiful dessert dishes you barely use because you never have company? Dust them off and get them to work. We eat with our eyes first right, so let's make the vessel beautiful, not to mention you made this ice cream with your own hands so you want it to shine!
We're getting closer. Now we need to assemble these bad boys. Take a minute and think about this as well. We want this to look like a masterpiece. Think about how you will arrange your layers and toppings. What sauces, fruits, and toppings are you using. Get your creative juices flowing.
Enjoy your masterpiece! Take a picture of your finished creation. When you eat, I would like you to try something. Close your eyes and taste. What flavors come at you first? Feel the coolness of the ice cream in your mouth, and pay attention to the smells of your sundae. Ok you can open your eyes now. Isn't it amazing when you really focus on something how much more you get from it?
This is something fun you can enjoy solo, or with friends. You can easily turn this into a sundae party! Have friends bring their favorite unique topping. Have a friendly competition for the best sundae! This is a great way to not only bring joy to yourself but to spread it on to others.
This is how you create a mindful experience out of a sundae. It's all about slowing down,
thinking ahead a bit, using some creativity, and paying attention to the details which will make you fully immersed in the moment. We approached this experience with intention and some creativity and transformed it into a multisensory journey. This is what we tend to miss out on in our lives. We take for granted that there is time and we will get to it eventually. Please don't make that mistake. We only have one chance at this thing called life and each day that passes by is one day closer to the end of our journey.
