The Mindful Pedicure: Good For the Feet and Soothing the Soul

Today we are going to talk about the art of turning something simple like a home pedicure into a mindful experience. Let's face it, our world is fast paced. We seem to have lost the practice of living in the moment and taking care of ourselves the way we should be. The good news is I'm here to show you how to turn your pedicure into a therapeutic experience that will nurture you in all ways. Let's break down the mindful pedicure to send you on your way to tranquility.

  1. Setting the Mood

  • Create the environment that is serene to you. This could be outside in the warm sun, listening to nature, or indoors surrounded by the things you love. Think about the atmosphere such as lighting, scent and sound.

  • Declutter your mind! Focus only on what you are doing at this moment. Turn the volume off on your phone, turn off the tv if inside and leave the distractions behind. Practice some breathing exercises to help get you in your zen state.

2. Mindful Soaking

  • The power of warm water is real. This is where we will be soaking those feet in salts and if you'd like add some essential oils. The salts will help you soften your skin and also as an added benefit they are a great detox.

  • Let your self experience the sensory aspects of the soak. Feel the warm water on your skin. Notice the smell of the salts or oils that you used. Listen to the sounds around you. Is nature talking to you, or is your favorite song playing.

3. Exfoliation and Massage

  • Exfoliating with a sugar scrub is vital in your pedicure. We want to remove the old dead skin cells to help bring in new fresh healthy skin. Do you feel that gritty scrub taking out the old to bring in the new?

  • Next comes the massage with your butter or lotion. Not only does it help soften your skin but it also helps stimulate circulation. And do we really need to mention is deeply relaxing?

4. Nail Care

  • We want to approach taking care of our nails with mindfulness as well. Take your time trimming, shaping, and buffing.

  • Polish always makes us feel great when our feet look good as that extra accessory that makes it all complete. When choosing any of your products to use on your body try to go as natural as possible to keep the body healthy.

5. Beyond the Pedicure

  • Try incorporating breathing and meditation exercises throughout your experience. You will become fully relaxed and feel that inner peace.

  • As weird as it may sound practice some gratitude. Look at what a great job you did making your feet look great. Send out gratitude for the beauty, the strength and support they give you every day to do the things we take for granted.

  • Always try to wear comfortable shoes that your feet will love and stretch them as well! The best thing of all is get them in contact with the earth. Bare feet on the earth is one of the best things you can do! It's called earthing or grounding but we can discuss that in another blog.

We just transformed a normal ordinary pedicure experience into a mindful, nurturing, and extraordinary experience. The practice of being fully present allows it to be a tranquil, grounding, self care journey. I can't imagine the crazy hustle of the world would be more appealing than this soothing, relaxing experience.
